Poverty, malnutrition, infant mortality, child marriages, child sexual abuse, illiteracy, domestic violence, spousal murder, rape and depression – these are some of the ills plaguing our world – but most especially our country NIGERIA.
A huge percentage of these ills can be traced to harsh economic realities from the home – absent, ill-equipped fathers and/or disempowered mothers.
We believe that, a lot of these ills can be greatly reduced if women are empowered, educated and supported.
In a country like Nigeria, to a large extent, the raising of a child is still seen as a woman’s duty. The success or failure of that child is seen as the woman’s responsibility.
This is a huge responsibility to shoulder! One that most argue is an unfair burden to place on women. Whatever the argument, the truth remains that it is the current reality of our society. That is why the Woman needs as much support as she can get in order to bring her best to bear in shouldering this responsibility.
We at The Wivesroundtable Foundation believe that, empowering and supporting women is a big step towards building a better society.
Kofi Annan once said “When women thrive, all of society benefits and succeeding generations are given a better start in life”. This aptly captures the influence women have in building a better society and a better world.
This rightly captures why we are passionate about The Woman!
